What Is Fibonacci Retracement?
Fibonacci retracement is a technical analysis method that uses horizontal lines drawn at key ratios derived from the Fibonacci sequence to identify potential support and resistance levels during a price correction. Traders use these levels to anticipate where a pullback might end before the original trend resumes.
Key Fibonacci Levels
- 23.6%: Shallow retracement — strong trending move.
- 38.2%: Common first pullback level in strong trends.
- 50%: Not a true Fibonacci ratio but widely watched as a psychological level.
- 61.8% (Golden Ratio): The most important level — deep retracements often reverse here.
- 78.6%: Last line of defense before the trend is considered broken.
How to Draw Fibonacci Levels
Select the most recent significant swing high and swing low. The tool automatically plots horizontal lines at each ratio between these two price extremes.
Limitations
Fibonacci levels are self-fulfilling to some extent — they work partly because many traders watch them. They should be combined with other technical signals such as moving averages, volume, or candlestick patterns for higher confidence.
